I found Nick Baylis's talk very interesting and quite uplifting. Working in the field of communication wellbeing, I realise that, however people chose to live their lives, the quality of their existence is often determined by the kinds of communication they experience. We're all on the receiving end of heaps of communication, but how often do we consider the impact of it on others? Do we "give as good as we get"? Do we let people know the effect of their communication on us?
I'm currently working with a group of bilingual people - Deaf and hearing. There are many issues within the Deaf culture, but paramount is the need to be understood and respected in communication. A lesson for all of us I think!
